Bangor to host Penydarren as Nomads draw Saints in Welsh Cup
The top two sides in the JD Welsh Premier League, The New Saints and Connah’s Quay Nomads, will meet in the quarter-finals of this season’s JD Welsh Cup.
The draw was conducted on S4C’s nightly magazine show Heno, with presenter Mari Grug and former Wales international Owain Tudur Jones conducting the draw.
Saints have knocked Nomads out of the competition at the semi-final stage in the previous two seasons, and having done similar in this season’s Nathaniel MG Cup, will once again renew rivalries with their Deeside opponents.
Bangor City meanwhile will play the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, Penydarren BGC of the South Wales Alliance League. The Merthyr Tydfil side are playing in the JD Welsh Cup for the first time this season, and have been handed a massive tie away at the eight-time winners of the competition, who will be looking to go one stage further than last season when they lost in the quarter-finals to TNS.
Four sides in the Play-Off Conference of this season’s JDWPL will contest the other two ties. Carmarthen Town will host Aberystwyth Town, and the two sides that needed extra time (and in one case penalties) will meet, as Llandudno host Newtown.
All ties will be played over the weekend of 2/3/4 March.
